Spinal & Disc Degeneration:
Your bones begin to deform, your discs swell, then they shrink, your
ligaments, tendons and muscles begin to harden and weaken; and your entire
spinal column loses its balance, flexibility, stability and strength. What is
happening? Your spine is degenerating.
Spinal degeneration is often caused by long-standing subluxations (Vertebrae
out of place in your spine) and stress of those subluxations. Besides the bones
changes can take place in your tendons, ligament, muscles, nerves, body
chemistry and internal organs. Nutrition can often help; ask "Dr. Mel"
for more information on nutrition for your spine. Oftentimes a person will say
they are losing there step and may notice a loss of height as well.
Many people think they are just getting old but the fact is that degeneration
can start in your mid 30's and sometimes sooner. If you spine is out of align it
will receive more stress from just the normal daily activities of every day
life. There are several stages of spinal degeneration. While you cannot stop all
of it you can often slow the process down or stabile it. If you have this
condition it will affect your length of treatment and the type of treatment you
may receive. We will discuss this with you when we are showing you your spinal
x-rays.
